Abstract
Reviewers reacted with shock and abhorrence to the graphic portrayals of sexual abuse and retribution in Minette Walters’s The Cellar when it was published in 2015. The author analyzes the novel’s trauma narrative and use of domestic noir to critique the patriarchal family, and interrogates the trafficking victim’s experience through horror and the paranormal.
