Abstract
Technology 5.0, with its integration of AI, IoT, AR/VR, and 5G, is said to be transforming education by making it more personalised, accessible, and inclusive. Moreover, by bridging gaps in ‘traditional’ educational approaches, Technology 5.0 is claimed to foster creativity, critical thinking, and lifelong learning, while reducing resource consumption for sustainability. With its ‘human-centric’ approach, Technology 5.0 is said to ensure equitable educational opportunities for all, preparing students for a future shaped by digital innovation and a rapidly evolving workforce. The event was organised by Universitas Muhammadiyah Cirebon (UMC), Indonesia, and attended by over 350 participants. Dr Alex Marsado, from the School of Education and Science, not only explored the potential for technology to transform education but also, behind the hyperbole, examined some of the challenges facing schools and higher education institutions (HEIs) globally. These challenges include digital poverty, privacy and security concerns, teacher training, and ethics.
