Abstract

My poster presentation is about drawing and how it can help us communicate with each other, solve problems, think deeply and connect as communities. Drawing is for everyone, and it's about the process much more than the outcome. Drawing images is a different way of transferring knowledge from one person to another. This poster aims to strengthen skills and build knowledge in alternate forms of communication and to explore creative ways of connecting. To draw images we use different parts of our brains and our bodies than we do to read and write. Images move directly through the eyes, whereas unlike reading which you must be trained to understand, drawing connects immediately.  When we draw, we use our bodies to stimulate ideas and investigate the topics we want to communicate. Does the physical act of moving hands and using manual drawing tools to allow the body time and space to process and give answer to the challenging questions we face? Can drawing out what we struggle with offer us the tools to understand things more deeply? In my experience, Yes and Yes!
