Abstract

Professor Neil Towers Inaugural Lecture 10/06/15. Retailing has always been the subject of change. In previous decades the change has been incremental steps of a store based activity with internationalization as the main trend. However the introduction of supply chain management, the use of the internet as an interface between capturing demand and servicing supply, the return to local sourcing and a focus on the role of the store has helped to re-shape the retailing landscape. These megatrends have provided a source of innovative and contemporary interest which have been reinforced by the prominence and importance of young consumers, smaller retailers and the advent of omnichannel retailing. The shifting focus of retail in all sectors across this spectrum of change is the subject of the enlightening and compelling topic of ‘Megatrends that are re-shaping the Retailing landscape’.
