Abstract

Short chapter reviewing the significance of urban agriculture in the developing world. This chapter outlines some of the advantages and potential problems identified in the research on urban agriculture. It includes boxed case studies from Jakarta, Dakar and Kano. It concludes that the benefits and adverse impact can be different in different cities depending upon their social, economic, political and geographical circumstances.
