Abstract

Photographic work was exhibited in 'The Photographer’s Contract', Akademie der Kunst, Berlin, (12 November 2006 - 7 January 2007), curated by Matthias Flügge and Markus Heinzelmann, touring to Museum Morsbroich, Leverkusen, Germany, 11 (March - 27 May 2007) This exhibition explored photographic work that focuses on a cooperative relationship between the artist and the people photographed - an agreement between the photographer and the photographed. Some images can only be achieved through cooperation / collaboration. . The main focus of the exhibition was on the tension between the genre of the photographic portrait and the artistic strategy or methodology. The exhibition aimed to give the first ever overview of the premises and strategies that have been involved in photo portraiture since the 1970s. 17 artists were shown in this exhibition with works made between 1975 and 2006 including Tina Barney, Jeff Burton, Clegg & Guttmann, Patrick Faigenbaum, Angela Fensch, Jitka Hanzlová, Peter Hujar, Izima Kaoru, Marjaana Kella, Boris Michailov, Ashkan Sahihi, Thomas Struth, Andy Warhol, Miwa Yanagi and Shizuka Yokomizo There was a fully illustrated publication 'The Photographer's Contract', ed. By Matthias Flügge and Markus Heinzelmann, approx. 200 pages, publishing house for modern art Nuremberg, ISBN 3-938821-97-3, published in English.
