Abstract

Photographic work from Billingham's series 'Rays a Laugh' was included in 'Head First - Portraits from the Arts Council Collection,' The City Gallery, Leicester (17 Jan – 28 Feb 1998). The show then toured the UK going to the following venues: The City Gallery, Leicester (17 Jan – 28 Feb 1998); Southampton City Art Gallery (09 Apr – 31 May 1998); Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Kendall (10 Jun – 13 Sep 1998); Hatton Art Gallery, Newcastle University (26 Sep – 08 Nov 1998); Victoria Art Gallery, Bath (16 Jan – 28 Feb 1999); Sheffield City Art Galleries (06 Mar – 18 Apr 1999) and Ferens Art Gallery, Hull (24 Apr – 30 May 1999). Other artists included Walter Sikert, Gwen John, Henry Gaudier - Brzeska, Roger Fry, Jacob Epstein, Stanley Spencer, Ben Nicholson, Lawrence Gowing, Josef Herman, Francis Bacon, Lucien, Richard Hamilton, Frank Auerbach, David Hockney, Howard Hodgkin, Michael Andrews, David Hockney, Gilbert and George, Maggi Hambling, Leon Kossoff, Tony Bevan, John Coplans and Richard Patterson.
