Abstract

The book points the way to how individual executive and non-executive directors, including those responsible for family-owned and small and medium-sized companies, can add value to the corporation by applying independent judgement and by learning the art of directing and leading. This is a 'Cross-over book' which integrates best practice from the not for profit, charitable, public and private sectors. The text includes advice about the ways that directors or trustees can develop resilience in their role and take the strain of directing in difficult circumstances and conform to their legal duties. The text includes a wide variety of case studies and models of practical governance designed to build an effective board.
