Abstract
Beyond adherence: A Capability Ecology of participation in community-based group exercise in later life. Research Aims Using a dual methods approach we aimed to 1) examine how older adults experienced a community-based exercise programme, what made provision more or less usable and meaningful, what participants sought to preserve, regain or expand through exercise, and how changing health and life circumstances shaped continuation, and 2) assess the short- and longer-term effects of a community-based exercise programme on physical function, cardiovascular health, and well-being, and habitual physical activity. These are addressed below in a qualitative component for aim one, and a quantitative component for aim two.
