Abstract
Linear mixed models incorporating both maturity status and chronological age showed outcome‐specific associations with competition and physical testing outcomes in male youth track and field athletes. Corrective adjustment procedures should be outcome‐specific and reflect the relative contribution of maturity status and chronological age identified within each model. Mean corrections substantially reduced maturity‐performance relationships in the 60 m and long jump, when the correction reflected the corresponding LMM findings. Sample‐maximum corrections showed stronger agreement and lower error for 60 m than long jump; corrected performances should therefore be presented with an appropriate measure of error.
