Abstract

The concept of partnership working has gained traction in recent years as an alternative form of governance to address complex and multi-faceted problems that perennially face society. Consequently, multi-agency partnerships are an important component of crime prevention and desistance strategies, and this approach has been largely mirrored within the sport and physical activity sector. However, partnership working is one of the most overused yet least understood terms in contemporary policy. Based on data from a study into partnership working in the sport and criminal justice sector, this chapter proposes a conceptual model that integrates a number of structural, process and involvement factors that may be predictive of members’ perceptions concerning partnership working. In doing so, the model provides a foundation for future empirical studies that examine, describe, and understand the perceived benefits, costs, and effectiveness of partnership working, specifically within projects that employ sport and physical activity as a basis for crime prevention.
