Full text not available from this repository.Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to analyse the development of Cheltenham's hospitals from a disparate assortment of services provided by a number of agencies, to the amalgamation of these services under the National Health Service (NHS) in 1948. Nurse training and conditions of service will be discussed. The motivation for change, and the effects of legislation, war, and contemporary opinion will also be considered, as · these factors determined national policy, which in turn affected local health provision.
