Abstract
The John Kobal Photographic Portrait Award ran for 10 years from 1991-2002. In that time it established itself as the leading showcase for new talent in portrait photography. The award and its outstanding touring programme, organised by the National Portrait Gallery, provided a unique platform for the work of the many photographers - students, young professionals and gifted amateurs - who entered every year. The catalogue, accompanying the 1997 John Kobal Photographic Portrait Award, presents a compilation of contemporary photography. It presents the winner and finalists of the award.
