Abstract

'Crawl' uses low-level drone photography to mimic the height and movement of children as they navigate the ground. This child-centered viewpoint re-enters the landscape as a site of imaginative play, improvisation, and freedom. The film is interwoven with interviews and storytelling from those who played there or who have connections to the children who did. These voices reveal the emotional and communal significance of the site, offering a vivid portrait of how informal spaces shape childhood experience. 'Walk' adopts a still, observational approach. Filmed through locked off frames, it captures the present day rewilded terrain while overlaying oral histories that recall the Millstream Way of the past—burnt out cars, makeshift dens, and a rough, unregulated environment that paradoxically nurtured creativity. The film holds past and present in tension, reflecting on what is lost when landscapes change.
