Abstract
Summarising key points of discussion and the questions raised between Christian and Muslim participants, this chapter describes the process of a group reading a portion of the Gospel together in the modern setting of online encounter. The reading group consisted of Muslim and Christian participants convened in the wake of the 2020 conference titled Reading the Gospels in Islamic Context, selecting the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew for its activity. The chapter reflects on the questions, comments and thinking stimulated by various contexts and faith backgrounds engaging with each other through the text, and the extent to which issues were addressed in the group. It poses questions for those interested in interfaith engagement, such as the extent to which inter-faith activities create spaces of meaningful encounter while negotiating the group dynamics created by awareness of difference among the members. The conclusion also holds out the possibility for deeper understanding between different inter- or intra-faith persuasions and interest in the Gospel texts through shared humanity.
