Abstract

Some of the “digital technologies” are now seen as the so-called “emerging technologies” – notably artificial intelligence, robotics, blockchain, Internet of Things and Big Data/analytics. These technologies continue to have a major impact on business and society at large. However, the success of these technologies, notably in small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs), is varied. McKinsey recently reported that 70% of so-called “Digital Transformation” projects fail. Contributing factors include a lack of engagement within the organization, low aspirations and insufficient investment, that is necessary to reskill employees and for process improvement. This webinar draws upon recent research and attempt to jointly explore this area with webinar participants. Questions that may be addressed include: • How are these technologies being deployed in businesses and organisations? • What are the key benefits and challenges? • Are these technologies facilitating new ways of working and new business models? • Does IT strategy still matter?
