Abstract

Schools and physical education have been cited as a having a key role to play in the promotion of the physically active lifestyle. Recently criticism has been levelled at the subject, highlighting that traditional practices are not changing with the times and are outdated. This piece highlights the use of alternative and non-traditional activities as a potential area to develop in curriculum design. The meaningful experiences framework is utilised to demonstrate their potential value.
