The Universities UK Taskforce Report (2016) argued that there was a need for universities to adopt “an institution wide approach, and embed effective preventative measures and maximise the support provided to students who experience incidents of sexual violence, harassment or hate crime”. The report went on to make a number of recommendations to universities which the Higher Education Funding Council of England (HEFCE) provided Catalyst funding to assist in the process of change. The University of Gloucestershire was awarded some of this funding to conduct detailed research of University community to understand their concerns, fears and realities linked to the issues raised within the Taskforce Report, namely sexual violence (including harassment), Stalking, domestic abuse and Hate Incidents/Crimes.
