Abstract
Understanding customer profitability in the highly competitive long alcoholic drinks market was key to the successful growth of HP Bulmer's market share in the 1990s. Developing an effective customer profitability system presents significant challenges in bringing together a range of different cost elements for each customer, and setting them against revenues gained. In addition, the system developed at Bulmers used new online analytical processing (OPAP) technology to provide multi-dimensional views of profitability data. This presentation outlines the background, challenges and results of this pioneering project.
