Photographic work from Billingham's series 'Rays a Laugh' was exhibited in 'Courage is Stronger than Fear', Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Wolverhampton (31 October 2005 - 31 March 2006) This exhibition highlighted Wolverhampton Art Gallery’s commitment to contemporary art and explored a range of issue based mixed media work. Other artists included Helen Chadwick and Simon Norfolk. The works explored social and political themes in contemporary art and were purchased as part of the Contemporary Art Society’s Special Collection Scheme. The Special Collection Scheme was set up 1998, and enabled 15 museums and galleries across throughout England to ‘develop interesting and challenging collections of contemporary art, in response to their historic collections.
