Abstract
Photographic landscape work was exhibited in 'A Period Eye', Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery, Norwich, (23 October 2003 - 29 February 2004). The exhibition featured historic photographs of Norfolk and Norwich, taken during the 1840s and 50s, many never published, as well as contemporary work specially commissioned from Sarah Jones, Cornford and Cross and Richard Billingham. The contemporary work was a response to the Norwich Castle collection of vintage photographs. The collection includes photographs of famous Norwich landmarks such as the Cathedral and Market Place as well as landscapes, architecture, fascinating portraits of local people and some of the photographers themselves. The exhibition was supported by a programme of talks, workshops and family activities. There was a 2 volume fully illustrated catalogue of the commissioned work with text by Richard Denyer.
