Abstract

Photographic work from Billingham's series 'Rays a Laugh' was exhibited in 'In the Blink of an Eye: Media and Movement,' National Media Museum, Bradford, UK, (9 March – 14 October 2012). The exhibition revealed how artists, photographers, inventors and scientists have responded to the challenges of capturing and simulating movement, creating images which transcend the boundaries of art, science and entertainment. A range of Classic images by photographers as diverse Harold Edgerton, Eadweard Muybridge, Roger Fenton and Oscar Rejlander were exhibited alongside historic items of equipment, films and interactive displays. The exhibition also examined how high- speed, time-lapse and time slice photography have revealed a world invisible to the naked eye. This exhibition was the National Media Museum’s contribution to 'imove', Legacy Trust UK’s cultural programme for Yorkshire, and part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
