Landscapes 2001 - 2003 consisted of three exhibitions of the same large scale framed gallery photographs (approx 30 pieces) made with medium format cameras from 2001 - 03. The exhibitions were 'New Pictures', Anthony Reynolds Gallery, London 2003; Trafo – House of Contemporary Arts, Budapest 2003 and Sint Lukas gallery, Brussels 2004. Images were made in landscapes in the UK, Ireland, Greece, Italy, Pakistan and Ethiopia. A key aim of this work was to expose the artists practice to new subject matter. There was an accompanying photobook of the work published in 2007 by Dewi Lewis and with an essay by critic, writer, curator and presenter Sacha Craddock

Additional Information: | Photographic work from Billingham's series 'Landscapes 2001 - 2003, 'Black Country' and 'Zoo' were published in 'Photo Art: The New World of Photography' Uta Grosenick and Thomas Seelig, Thames and Hudson, 2008, (pages 54 - 57) ISBN 978-0500287118. The book was an accessible survey of nearly 120 international artists at the forefront of photography including Elina Brotherus, Tacita Dean, Luc Delahaye, Alec Soth, Jens Ullrich and Michael Wesely.
