Abstract

This book is a pioneering sociological examination of a UK infantry unit in the contexts of barracks, field exercises and combat operations. The latter in South Armagh when the conflict with the Provisional IRA was ongoing. Constructed via participant observation it remains one of less than a handful of ethnographic studies focusing in depth upon operational units.
