Abstract
This presentation introduces Phase 2 of Restorative Justice in Prisons and Probation: Cross-National Learning Exchange, an international knowledge exchange programme coordinated in partnership with by the University of Gloucestershire. Building on a completed tri-country collaboration between the UK, Ireland, and Estonia (Phase 1, 2023–2024), Phase 2 expands the network to include partners from Finland and the Netherlands, bringing together academics, practitioners, and policymakers from five European jurisdictions. This presentation forms part of Phase 2 of Restorative Justice in Prisons and Probation: Cross-National Learning Exchange, an international knowledge exchange programme coordinated by the University of Gloucestershire involving partners from five European jurisdictions. It serves as the opening of Visit 1 to Avans University of Applied Sciences, 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands (22–25 February 2026), functioning as both an orientation for new partners and a reintroduction for returning participants. It introduces the structured reflection methodology used across visits, grounded in experiential and comparative learning. The overarching aim of Phase 2 is to deepen cross-national understanding of how restorative justice is embedded within custodial and probation settings, co-produce comparative policy insights, and build towards a longer-term European funding bid.
