Abstract
This presentation for the TRYJUSTICE Research Network explores the scope, applications, and interdisciplinary potential of restorative justice and restorative practices. Beginning with a grounding in the philosophy and principles of RJ, the session maps its diverse global and European implementation, ranging from formal youth justice systems to school-based and social work setting and highlighting both established programmes and emerging innovations. Particular attention is given to the use of RJ with young people, where the evidence shows reductions in reoffending, enhanced victim empowerment, and positive shifts in offender accountability and emotional development. The presentation also engages with the challenges of implementation, including professional resistance, resourcing constraints, and structural inequalities, arguing for systemic, multi-agency solutions.
