Abstract

Early photographic work from Billingham's series Ray's a Laugh was exhibited in Si Fest. 2024, Savignano sul Rubicone, Italy, and was curated by Alex Majoli. This Photography Festival is strongly focused on children and teenagers, and their education with reference to contemporary imagery, showcasing many different photographic languages and genres. All invited artists exhibit in local primary and secondary schools and the exhibitions are organized around various school subjects. Each exhibition is curated in a classroom setting and the children and teenagers are taught over the duration of the festival alongside the shows. The curated works help promote discussion and debate about important political issues and topics. There is an educational program of discussion and analysis through the themes and approaches within the photography. Other photographers who exhibited included Adam Bloomberg, Oliver Chanarin, Stacey Kranitz and Lindokuhle Sobekwa. Si Fest. is the longest-running festival of this kind in Italy, established in 1992.
