Abstract

Billingham's photographic work was exhibited in 'Undeniably Me,' Galerie Rudolfinum, Prague, Czech Republic, (26 May - 14 August 2011), curated by J. Wallner, H. Broeker and P. Nedoma The exhibition focused on identity, one of the most complex concepts affecting every human being. The depiction of human figures, especially faces, closely relates to the need to express oneself and take up a position in relation to “me” and the surrounding world. Besides Billingham the other participating artists were Christian Boltanski, Jiří David, Rineke Dijkstra, Marlene Dumas, Isa Genzken, Andreas Gursky, Gottfried Helnwein, Gary Hill, Robert Longo, Bruce Nauman, Elizabeth Peyton, Viktor Pivovarov, Gerhard Richter, Thomas Ruff, Cindy Sherman, Adriena Šimotová, Fiona Tan and Luc Tuymans.
