Abstract
Summary The BVI App provides TBF and VF results with both similarities and difference to a BIA device. It should be noted variance between BIA devices was also evident (see section on App and BIA device comparison). The BVI App provided VF results in litres rather than on the varied scales used by the other BIA devices, this approach to VF measurement may increase the value of App generated results to health professionals. Conclusion The BVI App provides a simpler user experience and can be used as a more efficient alternative for BIA devices for health care monitoring. Participants enquired about the processes used within the App as, for some, the notion that an assessment of their body composition could be made through ‘visual appraisal’ (as they saw it) was intriguing and variance between BIA devices also signalled concerns for participants on body composition analysis through bioelectrical impedance. The capability of the App was admired by users and enquiries were made as to when the App would be available and at what cost. Study participants gave the perceived simplicity of the App, its convenience in terms of ‘portability’ and assumed lower cost than the BIA devices as key points of advantage.
