Abstract

This sold out event, in front of a live audience, explored the wide-ranging ways Billingham and artist Tom Hicks continue to represent the Black Country in the West Midlands through lens based media. Hicks and Billingham discussed their experiences and processes of shedding light on the 'overlooked' and 'unlooked for', comparing and contrasting their respective aesthetics and understandings of the Black Country. There was an audience Q and A after the discussion. This conversation will feature as part of a forthcoming publication about Black Country culture called 'Transformer', to be printed in 2025 by Zer0 Books and edited by writers R. M. Francis and Anthony Cartwright.
