Abstract

Photographic work from Billingham's series 'Rays a Laugh;' was exhibited in 'The House in The Middle', Tower Art Gallery and Museum, Eastbourne, 2005. The exhibition bought together a diverse selection of works that define and defy 'the interior'. Concentrating on the interior as artifice, and drawing on historical, archival, professional, amateur and fine art imagery, the work consisted of show homes, television and photographic sets, porn studios and environments to showed interpretations of the domestic interior. Besides Billingham, other contributors were Danny Treacy, Paul Reas, John Kippin, Jo Broughton, Dirk Wackerfuss, Anne Hardy, John Paul Bichard, The Design Council Archive, the BBC Picture Library, the Collection of Chris Mullen, Protect and Survive and the Los Alamos National Library. There was a fully illustrated catalogue with creative text by Althea Greenan.
