Abstract

Billingham was a selector for the 158th Royal Photographic Society International Print show. This was exhibited at The Old Truman Brewery October 2015 during London Photomonth and toured throughout 2015 - 2016 to The Royal Albert Hall, London (17 - 25 October; Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Aberystwyth (28 Nov - 30 Jan); The Hive, Worcester (16 Feb - 23 Mar); Warrington Museum & Art Gallery, Warrington (2 April - 30 April); Municipal Gallery, dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin (11 May - 22) and The University of Derby, Derby (June30 June - 19 August). Other selectors alongside Billingham were Louise Clements (Co-founder / Artistic Director of FORMAT International Photography Festival and Artistic Director of QUAD, Derby); Bridget Coaker (Picture editor at the Guardian, writer and curator); Dewi Lewis (HonFRPSn and Publisher and curator) and Simon Roberts (HonFRPS and British photographer whose work deals with our relationship to landscape and notions of identity). The chair of selectors was Roy Robertson HonFRPS, past President of The Society. The International Print Exhibition embraces all genres and styles of photography and combines photographic skill with ideas rich in meaning, message and technique. The panel selected 100 images that were then curated by a panel of renowned photographers and photographic professionals. The competition for the print exhibition closed 1 June and nearly 5,000 images were submitted online -rps-international.org. Entry was open to everyone of any age or photographic level. Entries were across a range of subjects using a variety of techniques, including traditional photographic processes. Shortlisted entrants were invited to submit prints and 100 prints were selected for the touring exhibition. There was a fully illustrated IPE 158 Catalogue of the selected prints with a foreword by RPS President, Walter Benzie (HonFRPS) and comments from Richard Billingham and the other selectors.
