Abstract

The fate of Santa Maria de Gallecs, a new town designated outside Barcelona in the 1970s, hangs in the balance in the flux of political-economic change in post-democracy Catalonia. Elections for the Generalitat, the autonomous Catalan parliament, took place in March this year, and it is now widely expected that development will begin after a decade planning, protest, replanning and general uncertainty about Gallec's future.
